About Calcable
Calcable turns Korea's tax, salary and property rules into a single number, and explains those rules in the order you meet them. Available in English, Korean and Chinese.
Who makes it
One backend developer working in Seoul builds and runs the site. Not a tax accountant or a judicial scrivener — but turning rules into code is the day job, and every calculator here starts by transcribing the statute or government notice line by line, then checking the output against the National Tax Service, Wetax and bank calculators.
It began with a small frustration. A foreign colleague buying an apartment in Seoul could not get anyone to say, in numbers, what the purchase would cost beyond the acquisition tax, and the English and Chinese guides online had the tax rates wrong. So the calculators came first and the guides followed.
How the numbers are checked
- Every rate comes from a primary source — the law, a ministry notice, the government policy briefing, NTS or MOLIT material — and each page shows the date it was last checked.
- Calculation logic is verified by hand against at least three representative cases before publishing. The figures in the example tables are what the calculator actually outputs.
- Every simplification (reliefs not applied, ratios assumed) is listed under "Assumptions" on the page. There are no unstated assumptions.
- When rules change the page is updated with a new date. The 2025–26 property measures, the extension of the foreigner permit zone and the prepayment-fee reform were all reflected that way.
Limits
Results are estimates for reference, not tax or legal advice. Individual reliefs, special cases and differences in local ordinances may not be reflected. Before a decision that involves serious money, confirm with a tax accountant, a judicial scrivener or the relevant office.
Corrections and contact
If you find a wrong figure, use the contact page. Send the source with it and it will be checked and fixed within a day or two, with the date updated. Advertising and partner relationships are disclosed on the pages where they appear and never affect a calculation.
